Summary of Book
Long before Columbus landed in America, hundreds of groups of people had already made their homes here. You may have heard of some of them—like the Sioux, Hopi, and Seminole. But where did they live? What did they eat? How did they have fun? And where are they today? From coast to coast, learn all about these very first Americans!
Author Biography
Cara Ashrose distinguished herself as the only children’s author to purposefully bridge Native Americans’ historical past to their contemporary presence.
Illustrator Biography
Bryna Waldman is an American landscape painter, writer, illustrator, community organizer, and spiritual teacher. Her books have received the Christopher Award, the National Jewish Book Award, the ALA Notable Children’s Book Award, and the Parents’ Choice Award, and she has illustrated the book jackets for seven Newbery Honor books, among them A Fine White Dust by Cynthia Rylant and Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. She is no longer active as a book illustrator, and mentions on her current website, devoted to her work as a New Age spiritual teacher, that she spent ten years in the profession.
