Summary of Book
One night young Amada overhears her parents whisper of moving from Mexico to Los Angeles where greater opportunity awaits. As she and her family journey north, Amada records in her diary her fears, hopes, and dreams for their lives in the United States. Amada learns that with her family’s love and a belief in herself, she can make any journey and triumph over any change — here, there, anywhere.
Author Biography
Amada Irma Perez is a Mexican American writer and advocate for programs encouraging multicultural understanding. She has written four children's books and is a recipient of the 2004 Pura Belpré Award for illustration.
Illustrator Biography
Maya Christina Gonzalez is an award-winning queer Chicana artist, illustrator, educator and publisher. She lives and works in San Francisco. Gonzalez is a co-founder of the publishing house, Reflection Press. She also co-created an online learning environment called School of the Free Mind.
